ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRAINTS AND APPROPRIATE R&D STRATEGY FOR COMBUSTOR TECHNOLOGY

M. Cazalens, O. Penanhoat
SNECMA Moteurs, France

Keywords: injection system, lean combustion, environmental impacts

Aviation emissions have both local air quality and global green house effect impacts. As air– traffic is increasing rapidly, technology improvements should allow to mitigate these environmental impacts. The first part of this paper recalls the environmental constraints concerning gaseous and particulates emissions which aviation will have to meet increasingly. The second part describes the main promising solutions related to combustor technology, and corresponding SNECMA Moteurs R&T strategy.
