ENVIRONMENTAL, ECONOMICAL AND TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF A CRYOPLANE IN THE PRELIMINARY DESIGN PHASE
J. A. Krijnen, M. F. Astaburuaga
Delft University, Netherlands
Keywords: hydrogen, cryoplane and preliminary design
The potential to reduce the greenhouse effect by using hydrogen as aviation fuel has caused a renewed interest in flying on hydrogen. By designing a kerosene-powered aircraft and a CRYOPLANE for three categories, a fair comparison can be made on Direct Operating Cost, Performance and Environmental impact. By comparing these preliminary designs it's possible to do a first exploration on the existence of designer rules for CRYOPLANE designs.
