Integrated modeling of multidisciplinary engine-airframe interactions over the prescribed mission is essential for performing system analysis during conceptual design optimization. This paper highlights the significance of propulsion systems performance to this conceptual system analysis, and describes a generic rubber engine model for its digital simulation, consistent with conceptual design requirements and accuracy. The focus of present work is on propulsion systems for a subsonic civil jet, but it can readily be adapted to simulate propulsion performance for other roles as well.
