Keywords: fiber-metal laminates, inter-laminar stresses, compatibility

A higher-order theory is proposed for fiber-metal laminates consisting of alternating metal and fiber-reinforced prepreg layers. The theory includes two conjugated harmonic stress potentials, which exist by the requirement of interfacial compatibility, to describe interlaminar interactions. Its potential applications to problems of stress concentrations in FML are briefly discussed.
