Materials and material technologies have a large impact on the direct operating costs of civil aircraft. New metal alloys and manufacturing technologies have an effect in excess of 70% on these costs. This explains the crucial importance of the new development of aluminum materials for the aeronautics industry. This presentation gives a review of development of weldable alloys such as Al-Mg-Li and Al-Mg-Sc alloy.
