The JAS39 Gripen high Angle-of-Attack (AOA)
flight test program started in the summer of
1995 and was completed in the spring of 2000.
A part of this program consisted of carefree
manoeuvring tests to evaluate the flight control
systems ability to keep the aircraft within AOA,
Angle-of-Sideslip (AOS) and load factor limits
during extreme pilot inputs.
This paper describes the introduction of
desktop simulations into the carefree test
program and how this has created a very
efficient test procedure. A brief description of
the tools developed and the lessons learned
from their usage in the high angle-of-attack
flight test program are also provided.
