In the present paper a study for improving a 3D
measurement technique using Laser Dopler
Anemometry (LDA) is presented. A 3D LDA
system developed for measurements in
turbomachinery components is used for the
investigation. The sensitivity of the
measurement procedure on small errors in
aligning the laser optics is demonstrated and it
is shown that by using an improved alignment
method it is possible to improve the accuracy of
the measurements. The effect of coincidence
window size on data rates during the
experiments is also studied. Measurement data
obtained on a free jet configuration are used to
demostrate that the measurement procedure
presented can be used to obtain sound mean
flow velocity and turbulence data.
