Any new aerospace development has to
incorporate a large number of mechanical servo
functions, and the range of these functions and
requirements in servo technology is growing
apace. New actuator technologies therefore give
fresh impetus to product development and
accelerate progress. Actuators based on
mechanically active materials are a new and
attractive approach. This category of actuators
utilizes materials effects such as piezoelectricity
allowing to deform a body by the control of
external parameter such as the electrical
voltage applied.
