The compromise between aerodynamics and
stealth technology has resulted in the
generation of wing planforms which are both
novel in relation to existing aircraft and
unfamiliar to aerodynamicists concerned with
the prediction of steady and unsteady
aerodynamic loads. It is necessary to be able to
predict these loads such that they can be
minimised during the early design stage of an
aircraft, and then adequately accounted for
from both strength and fatigue viewpoints
during the detailed design process.
This paper presents the buffet experienced
by a lambda wing model, and details an initial
step toward a prediction methodology for use as
a design tool. The RMS buffet and the spectral
content of the pressure fluctuations can be
estimated from a mean pressure distribution,
whether derived experimentally or using
computational techniques.
